Bribery

What happens when you bribe your child with suckers so often that he starts demanding them and even knows where they are hidden? And then he demands a sucker (or Ku-Un) all evening and you actually don't have any so he throws tantrum after tantrum as he gets more and more tired?

Red wine all over your white couch. That's what happens.

Sadly I didn't get picture of the red-wine couch because I went into full on panic mode to clean it. And it all cleaned up well, thank goodness.

Hope that kid in that picture up there enjoyed that sucker... 'cause that's his last for quite some time.

I mean - until he's screaming in public again... probably.

Food Scale and 2 Success Stories

While in NM I stole/borrowed/took this food scale from my sister - Pinterest problems solved! And I've used it twice already with great success!!

My mom and I tried making the iced coffee again and this time it came out PERFECT! YUM!

Then I tried making a recipe I found on Pinterest for Peach Bars and they came out sooooo good!

On the drive back from NM my mom and I stopped at a cute fruit stand and picked up a bunch of apples and peaches -- so I wanted to find a yummy peach cobbler recipe. But in my search I ran across this recipe for Peach Bars. And any recipe with pecans in it wins!!

So we measured out the 2 lbs of peaches and made this delicious dessert!

The middle one is MINE!!

Alright Pinterest -- I'm on a roll -- what's next??

Urban S'mores

Us Urbanites (without a yard) have to get creative sometimes. So this is how we do S'mores - Urban Style. They were delicious!

(Why I cut the candle out of every shot, I can't even begin to fathom. Please note - there were cool shots of a candle that I'm too lazy to redo!)

Last week I drove with my in-laws and Miles (tragically - Tony got stuck at work and couldn't come with us) to Farmington to visit my family and steal my mom to bring her back to TX. It's about a 14 hour drive (however it was 16 hours on the way back) - long and long. In fact, it's still too soon for me to talk about it.

We survived though!!

The trip was awesome, of course. I absolutely love my family and I miss them so much. I wish Miles was able to spend more time with them... they love him so much! And he LOVED them! He was spoiled beyond belief by his Aunties. They are just so sweet...

Sorry for the overload of pictures about to happen - I try and try to edit it down, but I just love them all! LOL

It's tradition for my dad to take his Grandsons for their first haircut. But we wanted to let the curls grow out some, so my dad got to take him for his 2nd haircut also! The curls were gorgeous, but they were starting to turn into dreadlocks. He looks like such a young man with his new hair - I love it!!

My dad took Miles to the park several times while we were there and they had the BEST time playing together. I'm gonna cry just thinking about how much Miles loves playing with his Papa... I wish they could play together more often...

It was awesome seeing my dad climbing up that playground-set and go down the slide. And Miles just about exploded with excitement every singe time he did it. TOO cute!

Auntie RoRo took Miles to Big Bounce and took him through the huge bounce areas! And again Miles had the BIGGEST smile on his face the entire time! He loves any activity where he can challenge his agility. I think it's time to start training for Ninja Warrior!

And last but not least here's a shot from my favorite place on earth - my mom's porch swing in her back yard! She loves to garden and takes such good care of her yard that it's beautiful back there. The weather was perfect and my porch-swing-partners were the best!

I already can't wait to go back. With Tony next time though, we really missed him. :(

PS - there's a video of that Zumba class that needs to be edited... but it should be finding it's way to the blog soon. You are welcome in advance for the laughs! :)

Worst Idea Ever

Is there a name for the "saw it on Pinterest, tried it, and it sucked" conundrum? Because I am currently trying to drink the worlds worst cup of iced coffee. I'm talking WORST. And I doctored it up like you wouldn't believe = still not drinkable.

Technically I didn't find this on Pinterest, but I did Pin it myself because I was SO excited about it. A new favorite blog (that I've linked to before) posted this link to instructions for awesome iced coffee by the Pioneer Woman. The instructions looked so easy and the iced coffee looked so delicious that I decided to give it a try. That was my first of many mistakes.

First off -- the recipe calls for 2 gallons of water and 1 lb of coffee. Well, go to the store and find me a 1 lb bag of coffee -- and you won't. It doesn't exist. Not at Target anyway. All we could find was a 12 ounce bag or a 24 ounce bag. But 1 lb is 16 ounces. LOTS of searching, lots of mathematical calculations, a little bit of cursing the coffee under my breath and Tony and I decided that we'd buy the 24 ounce bag and figure it out later.

Cut to - us at home trying find anything in the loft big enough for 2 GALLONS of water and 1 LB of coffee. Nada. Nothing. Who has stuff that big? In a loft - not us. Frustration, cursing and annoyance ensue. That's when I made mistake number 2 - pour glass of wine.

We then decide to halve the recipe. DUH! Why'd that decision take us so long? We fill up a pitcher with 8 cups of water and then google "how many cups in a half a pound".

And this is where things got so confusing! Technically 1 lb equals 16 ounces. And 16 ounces equals 2 cups. So 1/2 lb should equal 1 cup. But we take 1 cup out of the 24 ounces coffee bag and it BARELY makes a dent in the 24 ounces. So surely something's wrong. So then we google our hearts out trying to figure out this conundrum. More wine. More googling and somehow we add 4 and 1/2 MORE cups to the 8 cups of water. I'm honestly not sure how it happened. I blame the wine, although I'm sure some website somewhere told me to do it.

Then we leave it to soak for 8 hours.

Cut to Saturday morning (yes, that was how we spent our Friday night - welcome to parenthood!) and I wake up knowing we've done something terribly wrong.

Tony drained most of the coffee grounds and refrigerated the black-coffee-of-death. Once it was cold we tried it. I knew it was going to be bad, yet I was still holding on to hope...

The container on the left hasn't been completely drained of all the grounds, so I'm not sure why I put that in the picture.

Don't be fooled by the beautiful swirly colors in the coffee. It was bad. SO bad that I had to throw my cup down the sink. Tony stubbornly drank his, although I'll never know how he got it down!

So I tried adding water.

Nope still bad.

So I added water, sweetened condensed milk AND half and half. How can anything taste bad with half and half.

This can.

Goodbye coffee... you were a good idea. We tried. We really did.

Anyone know how to measure out 1/2 lb?

Lazy Weekend

Tony hasn't been feeling well since Thursday (somebody told him to go to the Dr. on Friday, but did he listen? No...). So we've had a very lazy/low-key weekend. Lots of lounging, lots of chasing Miles around the new train table his Abuelita and Nono got him... lots of movies. We hardly ever stay home and just relax, so it's actually been nice!

Currently Tony is at the Minute Clinic at our local CVS to see if he can get some medicine... so Miles and I are watching Backyardigains and eating suckers for breakfast. For some reason sucker is "Kuh-un" when my little baby-head says it and when he asks for one I think it's so adorable that I give in. Mother of the year! But he's so cute eating it too - and he ALWAYS shares with me. How could you say no to this face?!

Please excuse the mismatched pajamas - I really need to do some laundry! I'm working on it, I promise! And please excuse my face - I haven't put any makeup on yet - and goodness you can tell! :(

So... since we've spent most of the weekend indoors we ventured out yesterday evening to let the dog (and baby) run around and get some energy out. There's a place about a block away where we can let Rocky off the leash to play fetch. In this heat he can only play for about 10 minutes before he's exhausted - so we didn't have to stay out long. But everyone had a great time.

Miles learned yesterday that he can touch the grass with his hands - he'll live!

We had fun, but the highlight is always when Miles and Rocky play together. Most of the time Rocky is annoying Miles and Miles is screaming at him. But more and more Miles is realizing that Rocky is a fun playmate! Once Rocky got exhausted Miles pounced!

Rocky was too tired to kick him off. HA! Aren't they fun!!
