This kid really loves cars
He plays with them everywhere!

First thing when he wakes up!

Naps with them

At soccer games

During dinner

Loves to lay on the floor to watch the wheels

Even at Best Buy!

And it's not like he doesn't have TONS of other toys to play with.  I try to get him to play puzzles, blocks, with dolls.  We have stacking towers, balls, music instruments.  He wants none of it.  Only his cars.  He plays with his trains sometimes.  But it's all about the cars!

Bottle Woes

My philosophy for being a mom is to do what works for me.  You can give me all the advise you want (in fact I greatly appreciate any and all advice... being a first time mom, I love it) but in the end I'm going to do what works for me and my family because every child is different and I know my kid best.  In fact, if any new mom asks me for advice that's the best advice I can give.  Listen to everyone, but do what you want and what works for you!  Without any apologies!

So when it came to bottle weaning I just wasn't all that put out by it.  I almost had Miles weaned, but then he got croup and he really needed his bottle to soothe.  Then his daddy started traveling for work and he missed him and needed his bottle even more.  (For a minute he even started using a paci.)  Needless to say I decided then wasn't the best time to wean.  I figured we'd get to it when it was right.

Well, months went by and Miles was showing no signs of giving his bottle up.  In fact, he flat out refused to drink milk from anything but the bottle.  So I didn't really bother with it.  Some kids breastfeed for years and years... what harm could a few more months do?

And I can honestly say that I have no regrets for my decision.  But, sadly, the time has come.  And honestly I think I'm more sad than Miles.

For the last couple of weeks Miles was waking up in the morning, jumping straight out of bed, walking to the kitchen, pointing to the cabinet and saying "bit-two, bit-two, bit-two, bit-two" or SCREAMING at me until I got him a bottle of milk.  We worked as hard as possible to get him to say ba-ba, and some times he would.  But sometimes he would just scream until he was served.  Babies!

And for the most part it wasn't a problem.  Until it was.

A few times a week Miles would wake up in the middle of the night and if he was particularly restless we would give him a bottle and he would go right back to sleep.  Lazy parenting at it's finest.

Well, Miles picked up pretty quick and decided that he was going to start waking up and demanding a bottle every night.  Momma caught on even quicker and said - nope!  Drastic times called for drastic measures.  It was time for cold turkey.

I removed every bottle from the cabinet (where he knew they were) and at 2 in the morning we explained to Miles that his bottles were all gone.  It took him till 3:30 am to go to sleep.  The next day he went to demand his bottle, but I showed him again that they are ALL gone!  He was sad, but quickly took a sippy of juice.  Not milk though, only juice.  We are on day 4 now and he really hasn't had a problem.  No more waking up at night asking for a bottle.  No more running out of bed to get a bottle, which means more cuddle time in the am.

All in all, I say it worked out pretty well.  He still refuses to drink milk though.  I've been supplementing with yogurt and cheese as much as possible, but may consider buying Silk Soy with Vanilla flavor to see if he'd try it.

We've also been trying the V8 Fusion drinks to add vitamins and veggie and fruit intake.  And he has been loving those!

This kid is too cool for a bottle!

17 Months, aka Almost 1 1/2 Years

Things I love about you right now

*You love to give hugs. You wrap your little baby arms around my neck and squeeze. And sometimes you lay your head down on my shoulder and I melt into a million pieces. You also love to hug your daddy and sister exactly the same way!
*Sometimes when you hug you get so excited that you like to squeeze your entire face to my face... sometimes you press your teeth so hard against me that you leave teeth marks! But you don't mean to be mean, you are just so happy!
*You love your belly button. You are obsessed with it. When I give you a bottle (yes, I know you are too old for one, but I don't care) you drink your bottle while playing with your belly button and you refuse to let your belly go.
*When I put you to sleep (or when your daddy puts you to sleep) you finish your bottle, hand it to me, wrap your arm around my neck and fall asleep with one arm around my neck and one hand on your belly button.
*Some times you fall asleep with both arms wrapped around my neck in a tight hug. And as you are falling asleep you smile and giggle at me.
*When you are happy and excited, or showing off to someone, you make this noise like a car revving up and then throw your entire body on the floor. Then you look up to see my reaction, waiting for me to laugh. You are such a ham and I know exactly where you get that from! :)
*When you are SUPER happy or excited you do a happy dance and stomp your feet while singing 'ah ah ah ah ah' with the BIGGEST smile on your face. We can't help but smile and dance with you!

*You don't walk anywhere. You run.
*Sometimes you repeat words that I say, but very rarely and only once. I can only guess that you are saving up all those words to speak in full sentences any day now.
*You LOVE Hot Wheels cars and will drive your cars around the house all day long. But your favorite one is this red food truck. You pick that one above any others and will always play with 2 cars at a time - the food truck and anything else.
*Sometimes when you play with a car on the floor you love to lay down and watch the wheels move from the ground. I assume you are working out how to make a car and will be able to make me one soon.
*You love bath time! You would take a dozen baths a day if I let you. When I try to sneak into the shower while you are playing you find me and then scream and try to climb in until I pick you up and let you shower with me.
*You love to torment the kitties. I really wish you would be more gentle with them. But I do not understand why they don't run away when they see you!
*You are obsessed with the vacuum. You love to help us push it and clean up. You are actually pretty good with the hose!
*You love to get in your car and just sit there. You look like you are chilling, waiting for your homies.
*You LOVE music. All music. At Best Buy yesterday you heard music and went to the speakers and started dancing.
*You love the same music we listen to and when we play Gotye Somebody I Used to Know you stop anything you are doing to l listen and then cry when it's over.
*You also love to sing. You sing along to the Backyardagains theme song and it makes me want to explode with happiness!
*You love people. You will talk to anyone and everyone (baby talk). You love to be out and about meeting people.
*You turn everything square into a phone and start taking (gibberish) to somebody!
*You are so adorable, you love to find hiding places and hide from me. When I find you, you giggle this adorable giggle.
*You stuff your mouth full of food.  I mean DANGEROUSLY full.  And you don't care.  You just chew, swallow and repeat.

I could go on and on.  We are at the stage where we think every single thing you do is cute.  Your daddy can hardly go 5 minutes without saying "GOSH, he's so GORGEOUS".

But, as a side note, it might be time to start using your words.  I'm pretty sure me and EVERYONE in Target last night could do with a little less high pitched screaming.  I'm just sayin.

Downtown Lights

I may have mentioned this before, but we love walking around downtown to see all that there is to see.  And the Holiday season is one of the best times to enjoy downtown.  Our favorite spot is the AT&T Plaza.  The lights are always beautiful!

Even the tree is impressive.

Miles was pretty busy eating some goldfish when these next pictures were snapped, so please excuse his lack of enthusiasm.

I had to find this next image online because we didn't get a good shot of it... but this is the tree at the Main Street Gardens park downtown.  This is supposed to be Dallas' shining star.  Their "eco" friendly tree.

And here's what I think of this tree..

Even Miles is unimpressed...

Chicks Dig Cars

Miles had a friend visit the other day... and as we were all looking at something on the computer, they decided to take a ride!  We looked over and Vera was in the car, Miles was filling up the gas tank and they were ready to take off!!

Hurry Miles, they are gonna notice us any second!

They're off!

This past Saturday morning we all woke up bright and early, grabbed some coffee, juice boxes and monkey bread and walked 2 blocks to the parade going on in downtown!  Living down here definitely has it's perks!

Needless to say, we all had a blast!  Can you tell Miles liked it??

Fun hat from Lyndsay!
