Things I Love About Miles at 2 Years Old

Yup, my baby is 2 today.  Two!  Dos! Twice as many as 1!  How fun is 2 going to be?!   I'm so excited for him to keep learning and growing, surprising and impressing us!!

I don't do these lists as often as I should, but here are some of my very favorite things about Miles just as he is now...

  • I love how much you love to laugh!  And you love to make us laugh, doing anything you think is funny over and over again - like standing on your daddy's (or sister's or brother's) stomach and then plopping down as hard as possible.  I don't know why that's so hilarious to you - but you really love it.
  • Sometimes you turn up the adorably factor by about 1000x by just looking at us and scrunching up your whole face into this beyond cute "scrunchy face".  I don't know why you do it, but you know it's the cutest thing we've ever seen and it makes my heart happy when you do it!
  • You love playing with your puppy, running up and down the hall with him - letting him nip at you while you run.  Sometimes he nips too hard and you yell at him - "GO".  This morning you yelled "Rocky" after your daddy yelled at him.  It was the first time you've said Rocky, and you refused to do it again, but it was adorable!
  • You are starting to say more and more every day, but you still don't have the confidence to really talk yet.  You try new words all the time (like "touchdown" and "thank-you", but usually only once or twice and then save them for later.  But you love to "talk" to us in your own language.  And you insist on eye contact during these 'conversations'.  I absolutely love it when you turn my face, with your chubby little hand, so that I'm looking you in the eyes as you "tell" me something.  It's something so important and I'm DYING to know what's going on in your head.
  • There are some words that you love to say - like "no" and "more" - but when you do say them you drag them out and end the word in a high pitch and you sound SO cute!!  You know all you have to do is say "more" and sign for milk and give me scrunchy face and you can have the whole tub of chocolate milk because of how cute you are!  And yes, you refuse to drink regular milk so I give you chocolate milk because I'm that much of a sucker!!
  • For some reason you refuse to call water anything but "en-gah".  You will do the sign for water but ask for "en-gah".  Its cute, but where you got that from I have no clue!
  • You are still the cuddliest little sleeper in the world.  You hate to sleep by yourself and I just hate to make you.  Most nights you end up in our bed before morning, or we end up in yours.  But my favorite is on the weekends when we want to sleep in -- you usually wake up early but then cuddle up on my shoulder and sleep for another hour or so with your chubby arms around my neck.  I want to freeze those cuddles and save them in my heart forever!
  • You love to dance!  I mean, you REALLY love to dance.  And you've started to expect us to dance with you.  You get so excited when your favorite songs come on and your dance with so much energy.  I can't wait to get you in a dance class!
  • I love how fearless you are!  I mean with everything.  You talk to anyone and everyone (if you are in the mood)!  You run with reckless abandon down hills!  You jump off the side of the pool with your eyes wide open and the biggest grin on your face.  I hope you always approach life that way!
  • I absolutely love how sweet you are to our friends.  When some of our best friends come over you've started running to them and hugging them hello!  I never expected that from you and that should teach me to never assume things about you.
  • I can't even describe how much I love the fact that you are still obsessed with your belly button!!  You still fall asleep with one hand around my neck and one hand on your belly button for every nap and every bed time!  You've recently started trying to fit things into it.  And, lately, you've started lifting my shirt to check on my belly button.  Thankfully, it's always there!
  • I never really liked talking to you on the phone, until recently.  Usually I just feel (and sound, and look) like a big idiot doing my high-pitched, ridiculous baby voice on the phone to you - with no response.  But the last time I tried, you chatted away back to me.  It was all gibberish, but I'll take it!!  I still sound and look stupid to anyone around me, but to hear your baby-talk on the other end makes it all worth it!
  • I love that you still like to throw yourself on the ground on your belly to get attention and make us laugh.  It's so weird and silly, but it's you!  And I want you to always be your weird and silly self!
  • I love that I get to be your momma!!
Of course, I could go on and on forever... but I'll stop there before I cry all my makeup off!  Happy Birthday to my little Baby-Head!

Oh my goodness - look at how you've grown!!

Hercules

Driving his car around the loft is no longer fun enough. Now my baby-strong-man insists on flipping it over on its top and then back on it's wheels again. He stands holding the front bumper screaming until he finally musters all his strength and flips it up and over.

I'm not sure if he's doing this just for fun or if he's actually trying to scare us. Either way, I need to look up what the prize money for the Strongman Challenge is! And how soon can I sign him up!!

Dork

Apparently I started a post about how big of a dork I am a while ago and never finished it. I haven't really been feeling very inspired to blog lately... I hate it when I go through these ruts. Summer is just always SO busy with trying to keep the kids busy, we've got the big kids all of July, Tony is in Vegas right now and Izzy has strep. And her mom is out of town also... so, that's been fun!

Anyway... here's proof of how big of a dork I am - matching outfits for me and my son! Is this as adorable/hilarious as I think it is? Or is this really a psychological form of child abuse. You decide!

Backseat

Blogging is taking a serious backseat to working as we try to settle into our new schedule. Feeding, taking care of, and making 3 kids happy is significantly more difficult than caring for one toddler. Everyone always asks me (with wide eyes) how it is to have Nick and Izzy stay with us for ONE WHOLE MONTH! And my answer is always the same. It's absolutely awesome!! Except for one thing...

See, I may have mentioned this before but, my step-kids really are great kids. They behave, listen to me, are respectful (most of the time, no one's perfect, right?). They love Miles and Miles ADORES them. BUT......

... how on earth do you go from feeding 2 and 1/2 people to 5?!?! It's insane how much food we all need!! And I have always been the worst at meal planning. Add to that the super picky eating of two step-kids (make that two growing/HUUUUNGRY step-kids) and I am just completely out of my element.

As far as problems go, I think that's a fairly good one to have. For now, I'm keeping it simple. The frozen section at the grocery store is my new favorite place. And I guess I'm just going to have to get used to visiting there more often! Thankfully my job is only part time and I have the time to go and cool off in said frozen food section!

In other news -- here's what's been going on with us -- most excitingly Miles and Izzy got a new bed!!!

We had a bed "of sorts" for Miles in that tiny room of theirs, but he wasn't crazy about it. So we decided to just FORCE that bunk bed in there and see how it goes. So far - AMAZING!! I wish we would have done this forever ago! Now Nick has the loft area up top all to himself. (Talk about spoiled!:)) Izzy has the top bunk (she watched a movie and played barbies up there all afternoon, I think she likes it) and Miles has his own bed that he sleeps in every night. He still wakes up missing us around 2 or 3 AM, but hopefully he starts getting used to staying there all night soon.

And Miles has already invited a lady friend over...

Isn't Vera just gorgeous?!

In other news I'm trying to grow out my hair and it's looking terrible. I'm desperate to cut to look like this --

But I have friends trying to talk me into growing it out. I'm sure I'll be happy once it gets past this horrible awkward stage... I'm just SO sick of it now... Let's see if I can hold out... But for now, it's perpetually in a ponytail. Blegh...

Ooops I've Done It Again

Sooo... I've officially made the switch from SAHM (stay at home mom) to Working Mom once again. But this time things are MUCH different!!

  • For one - I'm doing something fun, that I love, and working for a great friend! Actually I'm so excited about it that I'm afraid to talk about because I don't want to jinx it. But since jinxes aren't real, here goes -- I've become a Pilates Instructor at Ultimate Pilates in Plano and yesterday was the studios first official day open! I taught my first Pilates class to paying customers!! It didn't go as smoothly as I'd hoped, but it was a decent start! And the customers sweated and loved the class, so - THAT'S good!

  • Second - (and maybe most importantly) - it's only part time!! The one thing I hated most about working was being away from Miles for almost 10 hours a day. I prayed for something part time, and I could not be more grateful for this awesome opportunity!

  • Third - One of my dearest friends is watching Miles for me and he couldn't happier every single day when I drop him off. He seriously LOVES Lyndsay and her boys and Lynds loves Miles so much! I couldn't ask for a better place for Miles to spend his mornings than playing with Lyndsay and two boys!!

  • Fourth - Did I mention that I'm teaching the hardest Pilates workout I've ever done? 'Cause it's so awesome!! I've just finished 2 weeks of insane practicing and working out every single day - sometimes 3 or 4 times a day. And holy geez louise, my butt, abs, arms and legs are getting SO impressively strong! I've slowed down considerably (which is good because that level of working out isn't good for anyone) but I'm still working out every other day and starting to feel like I might brave a bikini at the pool soon!!

Needless to say things have been pretty busy here lately. Add to that the fact that Nick and Izzy are with us for an entire month and I haven't had much time to blog lately. I miss writing all the fun things Miles and I get to do, but I'm hoping that once we find our grove things will calm down a bit and I can get back into it!

In the meantime -- here are a few fun pic to catch this blog up to speed on our crazy summer!
